Branch your form or quiz using Microsoft Forms

Use branching to create formative assessments, providing immediate in-quiz opportunities for students to practice or review a skill. Branching allows you to provide a customized assessment experience for your students and gives you insight into where individual students may be struggling with a concept.

Add branching to your quiz or form

Before you get started, it's a good idea to make sure all of your questions are created. When you're ready to add branching, follow these steps:

  1. Open the quiz or form you'd like to branch.

  2. Select the More form settings (...) icon in the upper right of the screen, then select Branching

  3. On the Branching options page, dropdown menus appear next to each question answer. Select the arrow to see a dropdown menu.

  4. For each possible response to the question, select the question that you want to branch to.

In this example, if the student chooses the correct answer to question 1, they will advance to the next question.

Select a question to branch to.

If the student chooses one of the incorrect answers, they'll be given an opportunity to review the skill in question 3 before moving back to question 2.

Select a question to branch to.

  5. Select End of the form if you'd like one question to be the final question of the quiz.

Repeat steps 3 and 4 to create branching for as many questions as you need.

Tip: If you want to completely reset your form and remove branching, select the More options (...) icon on the Branching options page, then Reset
