Use a screen reader to create a presentation from an accessible template in PowerPoint

This article is for people who use a screen reader program with the Office products and is part of the Office Accessibility content set. For more general help, see Office Support home.

Use PowerPoint with your keyboard and Narrator, the built-in Windows screen reader, to create a presentation from an existing template. With templates you can build presentations with thought-out arrangement of elements and color, fonts, effects, style, and layout so you can focus on the content, not the design.

Notes: 

Create a new presentation from a template

PowerPoint 2016 offers a wealth of templates to use. Start by searching for accessible templates, and then select one for your presentation.

  1. To open PowerPoint 2016, press the Windows logo key, type PowerPoint, and press Enter. PowerPoint opens in a view showing recent presentations, a search field, templates and themes.

  2. Press Alt+S to go to the search field. Type accessible, and press Enter.

  3. Press the arrow keys to browse the templates and themes. The screen reader announces the items as you move.

  4. To select a template, press Enter. The template details dialog opens.

  5. To download the template you selected, press Enter again.

    The presentation is opened, and the focus is on the first slide. To move to the title text box, press Tab.
