What you can do in the Office apps on an Android, iOS, or Windows mobile device with an Office 365 subscription

Just announced: Microsoft is expanding the editing capabilities of the Office mobile apps to Office 365 Business Essentials, Office 365 Enterprise E1, Office 365 Education, and more. Your qualifying subscription now allows you to view and edit documents, as well as unlock additional features when using the Office mobile apps. Read the blog post or Read the announcement FAQ.

All Office 365 plans allow you to view documents using the Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or OneNote apps for iOS, Android, or Windows mobile devices. However, the features and files available to you depend on if you have an Office 365qualifying plan or non-qualifying plan, or if you have a one-time purchase of Office.

Check your plan to see what you can do in the Office apps

* Editing available only on screen sizes up to 10.1 inches.

Some qualifying plans and all non-qualifying plans have a screen size limit of 10.1 inches for editing in the Office mobile apps. For example, if you're using an iPad Pro with a 12.9 inch screen, you must have a qualifying Office 365 plan with access to the desktop apps to edit files.

  • Do basic editing (for non-business accounts and files)

To use the Office apps, make sure that your device meets the system requirements for your particular Mobile device.

Select your device from the list below to see information about how to install and set up the Office apps Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote using the account associated with your Office 365 subscription.

Try one of these solutions to help with your issue.

  • Make sure you're using the correct Microsoft account, or Office 365 work or school account
    When signing to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or OneNote, use the Microsoft Account associated with your Office 365 subscription with or the work or school account you use with Office 365 for business.

  • Verify your user name and password is working
    Use a browser to verify that you are signing in with the username and password that's associated with your Office 365 subscription. See Where to sign in to Office 365 for the correct sign in location for your particular subscription.

  • Check your system requirements
    Make sure your device meets the system requirements. You can also find up-to-date system requirements on the app pages for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or OneNote in the Apple Store or Google Play.

  • iPad users - reset your app
    If you’re using an iPad and you see the errors: No subscription found or This Apple ID doesn’t have a paid Office 365 subscription, try resetting the apps.

    1. Go to iPad Settings.

    2. In Settings, tap to select one of your Office for iPad apps like Word, Excel, or PowerPoint.

    3. Under RESET, tap Reset <app name>.

    4. Slide to enable Delete Login Credentials.

    5. Close the app. To close on your iPad, press the Home button twice, swipe to find your app, and then swipe the previews screen up.

Admins can also add an external link to the software installation package on the company portal by using the Microsoft Intune Software Publisher. This link lets users download the app directly from an online store, or run the app as a Web app from a website. The app is not hosted by Microsoft Intune.
