Use your Premium mailbox

Find answers to frequently asked questions about using your Premium mailbox.

Note: The Premium standalone offering was closed to new subscribers in October 2017. Many of the benefits in the standalone subscription are now included with subscriptions to Office 365 Home and Office 365 Personal. Learn more about premium features for Office 365 subscribers.

Go to your Microsoft profile and select Edit name.

Tip: You can also add a picture to your Microsoft profile by selecting Add a picture.

When you create a new personalized email address, that address becomes the default “From” address for all your email messages.

You can change your default “From” address in the Premium dashboard:

  1. Choose Advanced settings > Manage email aliases.

  2. Select the arrow next to email aliases used and select Make default “from” address below the email address you want to set as your default “From” address.

When composing a new message, choose the down arrow next to the From box to see your available email address options.

Note: If the From box isn’t displayed, select More commands The More commands icon. at the top of the Compose email window and select Show From in the drop-down menu.

Yes, all your email is automatically delivered to the same inbox in Premium, regardless of which of your email addresses it’s sent to.

Yes, if you don’t want all the email from your different email addresses to go into the same inbox, you can automatically move email from your different email addresses to different folders:

  1. Create new folders for each email address that you would like to re-direct in by selecting the Create new folder + icon in the Folders menu bar in the left pane (the + icon appears when you hover over the pane).

  2. Create a separate rule for each email address that re-directs all incoming email sent to that email address to the appropriate folder (for example, “Inbox –”) by selecting Settings Settings > Options, and select Mail > Automatic processing > Inbox and sweep rules.

  3. Select the Add + icon under Inbox rules.

  4. Enter a name for the rule (for example, “Inbox –” or “Inbox –”).

  5. In the drop-down menu below When the message arrives, and it matches all of these conditions, select It was sent or received > Sent to…. Add the email address for the rule.

  6. In the drop-down menu below Do all of the following, select Move, copy, or delete > Move the message to folder… and select the appropriate folder (for example, “Inbox –” or “Inbox –”).

  7. Select OK to save the rule, then select Save to save the mailbox settings.

Yes, you can use Premium to send and receive email from all your other email accounts such as Gmail, Yahoo! Mail, and AIM Mail. You need to connect your other email accounts to your Premium account to import your email and manage it all in one place.

  1. Select Settings Settings > Options.

  2. Select Mail > Accounts > Connected accounts and add your other email accounts under Add a connected account.

The message size limit is the same in Premium as it is in Hotmail, Live, MSN, and email accounts: 34 megabytes (MB) per file attachment or 15 gigabytes (GB) for files attached via OneDrive.

No, Premium currently doesn’t support email auto-forwarding.

No, Premium currently doesn’t support email groups.

No, Premium currently doesn’t support DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) or Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting and Conformance (DMARC).

Sharing is set up automatically among the people you invite to join your Premium subscription. To change the permissions or stop sharing your calendar completely:

  1. Select the App Launcher The App Launcher button. > Calendar.

  2. Under Your calendars, right-click the calendar name and select Sharing permissions or Remove.

If you delete an “accepted” invitation on the Premium dashboard, the sharing relationships with that email address will automatically be deleted and the shared calendar will be removed from the invitee’s list of calendars.
