Use a Yammer web part in SharePoint Online

Use a Yammer web part in SharePoint Online

This article describes the Yammer Highlights and Yammer Conversations web parts that can be used to enhance collaboration on your modern SharePoint Online page.

Notes: The Yammer Conversations web part is being introduced gradually to organizations that have opted in to the Targeted Release program. This means that you may not yet see this feature. To discover which Yammer web parts are available, in your SharePoint page, click Circled plus sign used to add a modern web part to a page , and search the web part list for yammer.

  • If you have both web parts, you'll see them both.

Yammer Conversations web part

Use this when you want users to participate in Yammer conversations without leaving your SharePoint page.

For page users:

  • Shows conversations for a specific Yammer group, a specific topic, or all conversations that a specific person has participated in.

  • Participants can view the whole conversation and respond from the SharePoint page without needing to open Yammer.

  • Participants can start new conversations from SharePoint.

For page authors:

  • Choose what to display based on search.

  • Choose how many conversations are displayed: 4, 8 or 12.

  • Inherits the theme from the page.

  • You can't select a specific conversation to display.

  • Only works on modern pages.

Yammer Highlights web part

Use this if it is the only Yammer web part available to you, or to provide a quick overview of active conversations and a targeted portal to specific groups or conversations in Yammer.

For page users:

  • View the most recent message in the top or most recent conversations from a group.

  • View the most recent message in specific conversations.

  • Users can only view the first message in a conversation. To respond, the user must click a link to open Yammer.

  • You can't display all conversations for a topic, or all topics that one user participates in, and you can't display your home feed.

  • To specify a conversation, you need the URL of the conversation.

  • Only works on modern pages.

Yammer feed from a Yammer Highlights web part

Use this only if the Yammer Conversations web part is not yet available and you want users to be able to participate in Yammer conversations without leaving SharePoint.

For page users:

  • Shows messages and responses in conversations.

  • Shows many types of Yammer feeds.

  • Doesn't work for users who use a mobile device to view the page or who have third-party cookies disabled.

  • Doesn't inherit the theme of the SharePoint page.

  • To set this up, you must use Yammer to look up the web address of the specific group, person, or topic or of your Yammer home feed.

  • Users may have to log in to Yammer even though they have already signed in to Office 365.

Use an embedded Yammer feed from within the Yammer Highlights web part

Note: This approach is not recommended for use in SharePoint Online, as you will not inherit the theme from the SharePoint page, the feed will not work on mobile devices, and users may be prompted to log in again to see the content.

An embedded Yammer feed can be used to see a running feed from a group, person, or topic. You can also Like, Reply, or view a specific conversation.

  1. If you're not in edit mode already, click Edit at the top right of the page.

  2. Hover your mouse above or below an existing web part or under the title region, click Circled plus sign used to add a modern web part to a page , search for Yammer, and then select the Yammer icon labeled either Yammer or Highlights.

  3. Click Use the Classic version of Conversations.

  4. In the address box, if a group had previously been selected, its URL is displayed in the Web Address field. If one was not selected or if you prefer to display a different feed, you must paste in the web address for the Yammer group, person, topic or home feed that you want to use. You can also click Display size to set the size of the feed display to small, medium, or large.
