Text message notifications in Outlook on the web

Text message notifications aren't supported in the new Outlook on the web. You won't be able to add new phone numbers, create new text message notifications, or edit existing notifications from the new Outlook on the web. However, you can turn off text message notifications from either the new or the classic Outlook on the web.

Important: Eventually, you won't be able to switch back to classic Outlook on the web. When this happens, you won't be able to create or edit text message notifications. In the new Outlook on the web you can only delete your text messaging settings and stop the service from delivering notifications to your phone.

If you want to receive notifications on your phone, try downloading Outlook for Android or Outlook for iOS

Note: If the instructions don't match what you see, you might be using an older version of Outlook on the web. Try the the instructions for classic Outlook on the web.

  1. Select Settings Settings > View all Outlook settings.

  2. Select General > Text messaging.

  3. Select Delete text messaging settings.

Note: While you can't add or edit text message notifications, your current settings will remain active and you'll continue to receive notifications until you delete them or until the service is discontinued in the summer of 2020.

To turn off or edit text message notifications in classic Outlook on the web

  1. Select Settings Settings icon > Options.

  2. Select General > Text messaging.

  3. Turn off any notifications you no longer wish to receive.
