Search at the top

We've updated the Search experience in Outlook to make it more reliable, intelligent, and faster than ever before.

The search box in Outlook is now at the top of the window.

  • New location: The search box has moved to the title bar. This new home for search will leave a cleaner message list where you'll have space to fit additional messages.

  • Spelling suggestions: By detecting spelling errors, search can offer helpful suggestions to get to the results you're looking for.

  • Top results: Spend less time scrolling through results. You'll find the most relevant search results sorted at the top of your search results. Learn more.

Known Issues:

  • Search box will go missing when toggling between the Auto-hide Ribbon options. To resolve this issue, restart Outlook or open a new Outlook window.

  • Outlook will fail to start if Auto-hide Ribbon was enabled when Outlook was shut down. To resolve this issue, start Outlook in safe mode. Press the Windows key and type outlook.exe/safe to start Outlook in safe mode.
