If you have to share your Visio drawing with other people who do not have Visio, you can publish your Visio drawing to a SharePoint site by using Visio Services. This is ideal when you have to share a Visio drawing with a large organization.

Requirements for Visio Services

Visio Graphic Services are available only on SharePoint Server 2010 Enterprise Client Access License (ECAL) and must be deployed, provisioned, and enabled in order to be used.

In addition, you must have or in order to save to SharePoint.

Step 1: Save the drawing as a .vdw file

  1. In Visio, click File, and then click Save & Send.

  2. Under Save & Send, click Save to SharePoint.

  3. Under File Types, click Web Drawing (*.vdw), and then click Save As.

  4. In the Save As dialog box, do the following:

    • In the Address bar, browse to the SharePoint site that you want to publish your drawing to, and then click Go.

    • In the File name box, type the name that you want to use for your Web drawing.

    • If you want to see the Web drawing in your browser after it is published, select the Automatically view files in browser check box.

    • To specify which pages to publish and which data sources to use, click Options, and then in the Publish Settings dialog box, select the pages and data sources that you want.

  5. Click Save.

Step 2: View the drawing on the SharePoint site

  1. In your Internet browser, go to the SharePoint library where the drawing is published.

  2. In the SharePoint library, select the Visio Web drawing.

  3. Click the arrow next to the Visio Web drawing, and then click View in Web Browser.

Step 3: Edit and republish the Visio drawing

  1. In your Internet browser, go to the SharePoint library where the drawing is published.

  2. In the SharePoint library, select the Visio Web drawing.

  3. Click the arrow next to the Visio Web drawing, and then click View in Web Browser.

  4. With the Web drawing open in the browser, click Open in Visio.

  5. When you have finished making changes to the diagram, on the File tab, click Save.
    Visio automatically saves and republishes the Web drawing to the SharePoint site.
