If you're a Chrome or Edge user who uses Microsoft Office Online you may want an easier way to access your files and launch the Office Online apps. We've created the Office Online extension and made it available in the Microsoft Store and Chrome Web Store for free!
Tip: The Office Online extension also enables conventional copy & paste functionality using the mouse or the ribbon, in Chrome.
Get the extension
To get the free Office Online extension click this link or navigate to the Chrome Web Store in your Chrome browser and search the Extensions for "Office Online".
In the Office Online dialog box choose Add to Chrome from the top right of the window. Chrome will ask you to confirm that you want to install it. Click Add extension and it will install in your browser, then present you with a confirmation message.
Now you should see the Office Online extension icon on the Chrome extensions menu at the top right of your browser. You've got the extension installed and ready to use.
To get the extension for Edge go to the Microsoft Store in Windows and search for the Office Online app, or just click this link.
Once it has downloaded and installed, click the Office button on the Edge ribbon. The first time you use the extension you'll need to sign in.
Launch Office Online Apps
To launch the Office Online apps, or access your recently used files, click the Office Online extension on your Chrome extensions menu at the top right of your browser. You'll get a drop-down that lets you launch any of the apps, as well as listing your recently used files for quick access.
