Outlook Groups mobile app

The Outlook Groups mobile app brings the Office 365 Groups shared mailbox to your mobile device so you can collaborate with your team while on the go. Just like Office 365 Groups, the Outlook Groups mobile app requires an Office 365 work or school account.

With Outlook Groups you can:

  1. Easily participate in group email conversations

  2. View and co-author Office documents (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) shared with your group

  3. Schedule events on the group calendar

  4. Upload files to the group document library

  5. “Like” a message, or @mention a person or a group

System requirements

Outlook Groups is available for Windows Phone, iPhone, iPad, and Android. You can download the Groups app from your device's app store. For optimal performance, make sure your devices meet these system requirements:

How is the Outlook Groups app different from the Outlook mobile app?

The Outlook Groups app is a full-featured app for Office 365 Groups. It includes all the features of groups in Outlook on the web and Outlook 2016, including group conversations, calendar events, document library, and OneNote notebook.

In Outlook mobile app you can now start, read, and respond to group conversations, but if you want to use all the Office 365 features on a mobile device, the Outlook Groups app is still your best choice. The addition of groups in the Outlook mobile app is the first step toward deeper integration for those customers who don't want to switch between apps for mail, calendar, and group activities.

Troubleshoot errors on Android mobile devices

Here are answers to questions we see regularly from customers.

The Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is a common building block for encrypted communications between clients and servers. The Outlook Groups app (client) uses SSL to talk to your work or school authentication server in order to validate your sign-in credentials on an encrypted channel. Your mobile device needs a valid SSL certificate to communicate securely with the server. This error can happen when the SSL certificate is disabled on your device or when the date and time on your device are incorrect. When you get an SSL certificate error message you can do one of the following:

  1. Correct the date and time on your Android device by tapping Settings > Date and time > Automatic date and time > ON.

  2. Contact your work or school IT administrator to make sure you have the right SSL certificate on your Android device. For more information about installing a certificate see Work with certificates.

This error could happen for two reasons:

  1. You interrupted the sign-in process by pressing the back button on your device while it was trying to contact the server. Just wait a few minutes and then try again.

  2. Your IT administrator has enabled two-step authentication for sign-in to the Outlook Groups app. Two-step authentication requires that you enter a PIN before you can continue. If you haven't configured MFA or didn't respond to the MFA request for a PIN then you won't be able to sign in to the app. See Set up 2-step verification for Office 365 for more information. If you aren't' sure about two-step authentication, contact your IT administrator.
