Move an Access web app from Office 365 or SharePoint Online to an on-premise SharePoint Server

Important    Microsoft no longer recommends creating and using Access web apps in SharePoint. As an alternative, consider using Microsoft PowerApps to build no-code business solutions for the web and mobile devices.

This article explains how to move an Access web app currently hosted on Office 365 or SharePoint Online to an on-premise SharePoint Server. You can only perform this procedure if the following are all true:

  • Your on-premise SharePoint Server is using SharePoint Server 2016.

  • Your SQL Server version for your on-premise SharePoint Server is SQL Server 2016.

Move your Access web app to an on-premise SharePoint Server

  1. The first step in moving your Access web app is to create an Access app package which contains all the needed structure and data. See Create an Access app package for a detailed walk-through of the steps involved.

    Note: The maximum size for an app package is 100 MB. The packaging process does compress the data so you can likely save larger databases as an app package.
