There are many reasons for and against using the public cloud, and in this section we'll explore some hybrid scenarios where you can use a mixed environment with your current on-premise solution. It is easy to think you have to choose the Cloud or nothing. You need to decide which is the best for your organization. And often the most sensible option is use a bit of the Cloud and also your own infrastructure. This is known as a hybrid solution. A hybrid cloud consists of a private cloud and a public cloud bound together. There are a number of possible scenarios that work well in a hybrid environment.

These include joining two separate clouds together whether they are private or public. Often, you want to keep sensitive data in a separate location, such as on your servers or in a secure vault and then use the Cloud to host the front end. Once you have a foothold in the public cloud, you can use it to extend or scale your requirements as we discussed in an earlier chapter. It is very easy to connect data resources and application services together across the internet safely and quickly. By taking a hybrid approach you can also mix and match with various service providers that suit your needs.

Ultimately, by using a hybrid solution organizations can gain more control over their costs and resources. In the next movie we will consider the steps required to move your data completely to the Cloud. We will look at associated costs and the integration tools available.
