Fix notification issues in the Teams Android app

In some cases, Android devices or third-party apps can block Microsoft Teams from sending notifications. Use this article to troubleshoot these notification issues.

Android operating systems

Android 6.0 and later

Make sure that permissions for Teams are enabled:

  1. Open the Settings app.

  2. Tap Apps.

  3. Choose Teams.

  4. Select Permissions and ensure that all permissions are enabled.

Android 6.0.1

Check that battery optimization is not preventing Teams from sending you notifications:

  1. Open the Settings app.

  2. Tap Battery.

  3. Tap More options More options button and choose Battery Optimization.

  4. Tap the down arrow and choose All apps.

  5. Tap Teams, then tap Don't optimize.

Third-party apps

Clean Master

This third-party app might be blocking Teams from sending notifications.

  1. Go to the app's Tools tab.

  2. Select the Notification Cleaner.

  3. Tap the gear icon Settings button.

  4. Disable this feature for Teams only or for all notifications.

Security Master

This third-party app might be blocking Teams from sending notifications.

  1. Go to the app's Notification Cleaner.

  2. Tap the gear icon Settings button.

  3. Ensure that Teams is unchecked and listed under Apps - Notifications Allowed.

Note: In some cases, you might need to uninstall the app to receive notifications.

Android device models

The following Android devices and models are known to have issues with Teams notifications.

Asus Zenfone (Android 7.0)

First, make sure that Teams is set to auto-start:

  1. Open the Settings app.

  2. Tap Power Management.

  3. Select Auto-start Manager.

  4. Find Teams and ensure it's enabled.

Next, list Teams as a protected app:

  1. Open the Mobile Manager app.

  2. Tap Boost > Enable Super Boost.

  3. Select Protected app list.

  4. Verify that Teams is on the list.

Asus Zenfone 2

Make sure that Teams is allowed to begin on startup from your auto-start manager:

  1. Open the Apps app.

  2. Tap Auto-start manager.

  3. Toggle Teams to Allow.

Huawei Honor 6

First, list Teams as a protected app:

  1. Open the Settings app.

  2. Tap Power Saving > Protected apps.

  3. Toggle Teams to enable.

Then, turn on Teams in the Notification Manager:

  1. Open the Settings app.

  2. Tap Notification Manager.

  3. Select Notify for Teams to receive push notifications.

Huawei Honor 8

First, list Teams as a protected app:

  1. Open the Settings app.

  2. Tap Advanced Settings > Battery Manager.

  3. Tap Protected apps (or Close apps after screen lock).

  4. Toggle Teams to enable it.

Next, ignore battery optimizations for Teams:

  1. Open the Settings app.

  2. Tap Apps > Advanced.

  3. Select Ignore battery optimizations.

  4. Choose Teams to ignore the app.

Finally, allow notifications from Teams:

  1. Open the Settings app.

  2. Select the Notification Panel & Status Bar.

  3. Tap Notification Center and find Teams.

  4. Make sure that Allow Notifications and Priority Display are active.

Huawei P8 Lite

First, set up Teams to run at startup:

  1. Open the Phone Manager app.

  2. Swipe left and tap Startup Manager.

  3. Tap Teams and ensure that it's set to run automatically at system startup.

Then, allow notifications from Teams:

  1. Open the Phone Manager app.

  2. Swipe left and tap Notification Manager.

  3. Tap Rules and ensure that Teams is set up to send notifications to the notification panel. Double-check to see if any other settings in this view might be blocking notifications.

Huawei Mate 8 and Huawei Nova Plus

Make sure that Teams is exempt from battery optimization:

  1. Open the Settings app.

  2. Tap Advanced Settings > Battery Manager > Protected apps.

  3. Toggle Teams to enable it.

LeEco/LeTV

First, enable Teams to run at startup:

  1. Open the Settings app.

  2. Tap Permissions.

  3. Tap Manage Auto Launch. If you have enabled other apps to auto-launch, you'll see You've enabled [x] apps to auto launch.

  4. Toggle Teams to enable it.

Finally, list Teams as a protected app:

  1. Open the Settings app.

  2. Select Battery, then tap Power saving management.

  3. Select App Protection.

  4. Toggle Teams to enable it.

Note: If you have turned on Lock Screen Cleanup and Ultra Long Standby during Sleep, you need to disable them to allow Teams notifications.

Lenovo

Turn on the auto-start setting for Teams:

  1. Open the Settings app.

  2. Tap Power Manager.

  3. Select Background app management.

  4. Toggle Teams to Allow auto-start.

OnePlus (Android 7.0 and earlier)

Make sure that Teams is set to auto-launch:

  1. Open the Settings app.

  2. Tap Apps.

  3. Tap the gear icon Settings button in the top right.

  4. Select App AutoLaunch.

  5. Toggle Teams to enable it.

OnePlus (Android 8.0 and later)

First, make sure that app storage is set to clear normally:

  1. Open the Settings app.

  2. Tap Advanced.

  3. Select Recent apps management.

  4. Ensure that Normal clear is enabled.

Second, exclude Teams from battery optimization:

  1. Open the Settings app.

  2. Tap Battery > Battery Optimization.

  3. Tap Apps not optimized and select All apps.

  4. Find Teams and ensure it's set to Don't optimize.

OnePlus 3

Adjust your battery optimization to allow notifications from Teams when it's running in the background:

  1. Open the Settings app.

  2. Tap Battery.

  3. Select Battery Optimization.

  4. Tap More options More options button in the top right.

  5. Select Advanced Optimization.

  6. Toggle Teams to off.

OPPO

First, list Teams as a protected app:

  1. Open the Settings app.

  2. Tap Advanced Settings > Battery Manager > Protected Apps.

  3. Toggle Teams to enable protection.

Next, ignore battery optimization for Teams:

  1. Open the Settings app.

  2. Tap Apps > Advanced.

  3. Select Ignore Battery Optimizations.

  4. Toggle Teams to ignore optimization.

Finally, enable notifications from Teams:

  1. Open the Settings app.

  2. Tap Notification Panel & Status Bar > Notification Center.

  3. Find Teams and activate allow notifications and priority display.

Samsung

First, prioritize notifications from Teams.

  1. Open the Settings app.

  2. Tap Apps.

  3. Select Teams.

  4. Under App Setting, tap Notifications.

  5. Toggle on Set as priority.

Then, exclude Teams from battery optimization.

  1. Open the Settings app.

  2. Tap Device management.

  3. Select Battery.

  4. Tap Unmonitored apps.

  5. Add Teams to the list.

Xiaomi

Verify that Teams has permission to auto-start:

  1. Open the Security app.

  2. Tap Permissions > Autostart.

  3. Toggle Teams to enable it.
