The Number1 through Number20 fields are custom fields that store any numeric information you want to include in your project relating to tasks, resources, or assignments. The default number is 0.

There are several categories of Number1-20 fields.

Data Type    Number

Number1-20 (task fields)

Entry Type    Calculated or entered

Best Uses    Add one of the Custom Number fields to a task view when you want to display, filter, sort, or edit any custom task-related numeric information that isn't already provided by a standard numeric field.

Example    You need to show which department is responsible for each task. You add the Number1 field to the Task Sheet view, rename it "Dept Code," and then enter the appropriate department codes for the tasks. You can then sort the tasks using the department code field to show how the tasks are grouped by department.

Remarks    You can create custom value lists, formulas, and graphical indicators for any of the custom number fields in the Custom Fields dialog box. Specifying a formula causes the field to become read-only.

You can copy the custom fields you create, along with their custom attributes, to other project files in the Organizer dialog box.

Number1-20 (resource fields)

Entry Type    Calculated or entered

Best Uses    Add one of the custom number fields to a resource view when you want to display, filter, sort, or edit any custom resource-related numeric information that isn't already provided by a standard numeric field.

Example    You need to show the department codes of resources to indicate which departments are contributing resources to the project. You add the Number1 field to the Resource Sheet view, rename it "Dept Code," and then enter the appropriate department codes for each resource.

Number1-20 (assignment fields)

Entry Type    Entered

Best Uses    Add one of the custom number fields to the sheet portion of the Task Usage or Resource Usage view when you want to display, filter, sort, or edit any custom numeric information.

Example    You would like to show the department codes with assignments to indicate which department is responsible for each assignment. You add the Number1 field to the Task Usage view, rename it "Dept Code," and then enter the appropriate department codes for the assignments.
