A linked text box or AutoShape that contains part of a story is on the scratch area. You will not be able to print this part of the story to a printer or publish it to a Web site.

To find and select the item, click the error message in the Design Checker task pane, click the arrow, and then click Go to this Item.

Manual fix

To fix this problem manually, move the text box from the scratch area to a page in the publication by doing one of the following:

Drag the text box to a new position

  • Position the mouse pointer over the border of the text box until the pointer changes to the Move pointer Move pointer.

  • Drag the text box onto the page.

To drag the text box in a straight line, hold down SHIFT while you drag.

Note: If one of the Snap commands is turned on, the text box might snap to the nearest guide, object, or ruler mark when you release the mouse button.

Position the text box precisely on the page

  1. Right-click the text box, and then click Format Text Box on the shortcut menu.

  2. In the Format Text Box dialog box, click the Layout tab.

  3. Under Position on page, enter the positive measurements for the horizontal and vertical placement of the text box.

  4. Click OK.

Delete the text box that is on the scratch area

  • Select the text box, and then press DELETE.

Note: If the text box on the scratch area is linked and you delete it, the text that is in that text box will go into overflow.
