Description     For a work resource (people and equipment), the Cost Per Use field shows the cost that accrues each time a resource is used. It is added each time a work resource unit is assigned to a task. It does not vary with the amount of time you use the resource. For a material resource, the Cost Per Use field shows the cost that accrues at one time, regardless of the number of units.

Best Uses     Add the Cost Per Use field to a resource view to enter a cost for a work resource if the resource charges a set fee rather than (or in addition to) a variable, or hourly, fee. For a material resource, use this field to indicate a cost that's incurred once, regardless of the number of units.

Example     Every time you use a particular shuttle service, there is a fixed delivery charge of $10. You enter a cost-per-use value of $10. This charge is applied each time the service is used.

In the same project, there is a fixed storage fee of $350 associated with the use of bricks, a material resource. You enter the cost-per-use value of $350. This charge is only applied once.

Remarks     You can vary the cost per use across time. In the Cost rate tables in the Resource Information dialog box, you can enter a date and a new cost rate to begin on a particular date.
