Database Properties for Entity shape (Indexes)

Use these options to define an index and to edit its properties for the selected table.

For example, you can edit the name of an index, change index options, rearrange the order of columns in an index, or set extended attributes for an index. Extended attributes for an index are driver-specific and are not supported by all DBMSs.

Microsoft Office Visio automatically creates unique indexes on primary keys.

Index name

Click an existing index that you want to edit.

Index type

Click an option to specify whether the index is a

  • Non-unique index only

  • Unique index with constraint on top

  • Unique index only

  • Unique constraint only


Click to open the New Index dialog box in which you can type a name for the selected index.


Click to delete the selected index.


Click to open the Rename Index dialog box, in which you can rename the selected index.


Extended attributes  Lists index attributes that have been modified by means of this utility.

Default driver  Lists the default Visio database driver associated with an ODBC driver.

Available columns

Lists columns that can be included in an index definition.

Add >

Click to move the selected columns in the Available columns list to the Indexedcolumns list.

< Remove

Click to move the selected columns from the Indexed columns list to the Availablecolumns list.

Remove all

Click to move all columns from the Indexed columns list to the Available columns list.

Indexed columns

Lists columns that are included in the selected index.
