Crop inserted pictures in OneNote for Mac

Sometimes you may want to edit pictures that you’ve already added to your notes. One way to edit pictures is to crop them, removing unnecessary parts of a picture either for emphasis or to make it fit better. When you need to edit pictures in OneNote, the Photos app on your Mac is a handy helper.

  1. In OneNote for Mac, Control-click the picture, click Save As and save it.

  2. On your Mac, open the Photos app, and then click File > Import on the menu bar.

  3. Find and select the picture, and then click Review for Import.

  4. After importing, double-click the image, and then click the Edit Photo button near the top right corner of the window.

  5. In the tools menu that appears, click Crop, and then use the cropping tool to modify the picture to your liking.

  6. When finished, click Done.

  7. Switch back to OneNote and then click where you want the modified picture to appear.

  8. On the Insert tab, click Picture.

  9. In the Photos folder (or wherever your modified picture was saved), select the picture, and then click Insert.

Tip: Consider adding the OneNote extension to the Share menu on your Mac, so you can share edited pictures directly to OneNote. To learn how, see the Customize the Share menu section in this article.
