ISSUE
This issue only impacts systems that have both Microsoft Microsoft 365 or Office 2016/2019 C2R installed, and also have an earlier version of Microsoft Access (e.g. Access 2010 or Access 2013) installed. This includes the 2010 or 2013 versions of the Access Runtime.
When trying to send mail using DoCmd.SendObject, using the MAPI APIs directly in VBA code, or using 3rd party add-ons that send mail using the MAPI API in the older version of Access, the program will terminate.
This problem was introduced in version 1811 (Build 11029.20108) of Office.
STATUS: WORKAROUND
Since the issue affects using the MAPI API from within Access, one alternative is to launch Outlook and use the Outlook object model to send mail.
The problem will also not occur using the more recent version of Access, so if you can run the application using Access from Microsoft 365, rather than Access 2010/2013, the problem will not occur.
If you must run the application using the older version of Access, and you must have both the older version of Access, and Microsoft 365/2016/2019 installed on the machine, and you understand how to switch Office channels (Overview of update channels) then you can switch from Current Channel to Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel, which will give you an earlier version of Office, which does not have the issue described here.
We are continuing to investigate to determine the best way to resolve this issue.
