This topic lists the additional options you can use to modify the data series in your charts.

Important: The options that appear or are available to you in the Options tab will depend on the chart you are using.

Most charts have an option called Vary colors by point—select this checkbox to vary the colors of data markers in a single-series chart.

Column chart

Overlap    To change the overlap of the data markers in each category, enter a value between -100 and 100 in the box. The higher the value, the greater the overlap within the category.

Gap width    To change the spacing between categories of data markers, enter a value between 0 (zero) and 500. The higher the value, the greater the distance between each category.

Series lines    These lines connect the data series in 2-D stacked bar and column charts to emphasize the difference in measurement between each data series. Pie of pie and bar of pie charts display series lines by default to connect the main pie chart with the secondary pie or bar chart. Select this checkbox if you want to show series lines in your chart.

Bar/Cylinder/Pyramid/Cone charts

You can change the chart depth in 3-D charts that have axes, the gap depth in 3-D perspective charts, and the gap width in 3-D bar or column charts.

Line/Stock chart

Gap width    To change the spacing between categories of data markers, enter a value between 0 (zero) and 500. The higher the value, the greater the distance between each category.

High-low lines    Available in 2-D line/stock charts and displayed by default in stock charts, high-low lines extend from the highest value to the lowest value in each category. Select this checkbox if you want to add high-low lines to your chart.

Up/down bars    Useful in line/stock charts with multiple data series, up-down bars indicate the difference between data points in the first data series and the last data series. By default, these bars are also added to stock charts, such as Open-High-Low-Close and Volume-Open-High-Low-Close. Select this checkbox if you want to add up/down bars to your chart.

Drop lines    Available in 2-D and 3-D area, stock, and line charts, these lines extend from data points to the horizontal (category) axis to help clarify where one data marker ends and the next data marker starts. Select this checkbox if you want to add drop lines to your area chart.

Pie/Doughnut chart

Angle of first slice    You can rotate a pie chart or a doughnut chart for clarity or emphasis of labels. Type a value between 0 (zero) and 360 to specify the angle at which you want the first slice to appear.

Doughnut hole size    This option is available to doughnut charts only. Type a value between 10 and 90 to specify the diameter of the hole.

Vary colors by slice    Clear this checkbox to display all data points of a data series in the same color on a pie chart or donut chart.

Area chart

Drop lines    Available in 2-D and 3-D area and line charts, these lines extend from data points to the horizontal (category) axis to help clarify where one data marker ends and the next data marker starts. Select this checkbox if you want to add drop lines to your area chart.
