Resources assigned to the task cannot complete the work in the required duration

The action that you're attempting to take will cause a scheduling conflict for one or more resources assigned to the task. The resources assigned to work on this task cannot complete the work within the current duration, and this task's duration is fixed, meaning that Microsoft Project cannot extend the duration. You can avoid creating this scheduling conflict by canceling this action with the Planning Wizard.

If this task is a summary task or a subproject, you must instead change the durations for each of its subtasks.

Note: Go to View resource workloads and availability for additional information.

Using the Planning Wizard, you can:

Cancel the action and avoid the scheduling conflict.

Project will cancel this action and there will be no scheduling conflict.

Continue the action and allow the scheduling conflict.

Project will create a scheduling conflict, but the work for the resource will not be completed in the allowed duration.

You may want to:

  • Change the units for one or more resources so that they can work more hours on the task.

  • Assign additional resources to the task so that the work can be done on time.

  • Change the task type to either Fixed Units or Fixed Work. Project will then adjust the duration to show how long it will take to complete the task with the assigned resources.

If you don't want the Planning Wizard to display this information again, select the Don't tell me about this again check box.
