Microsoft 365 automatically applies superscript formatting to the ends of ordinal numbers, which are numbers that show the relative position of something in a sequence, such as 21st, 22nd, 23rd, and so on.

Here's how you can stop the automatic formatting by canceling superscript mode.

  1. Select File> Options.

  2. Select Proofing, and under AutoCorrect options, select AutoCorrect Options.

  3. Go to AutoFormat As You Type and clear the Ordinals (1st) with superscript to prevent the app from applying superscript formatting to numbers.

  1. On the Word or PowerPoint menu, select Preferences, and then select AutoCorrect.

  2. Go to AutoFormat as You Type and clear the Ordinals (1st) with superscript to prevent the app from applying superscript formatting to numbers.
