The baseline work fields (Baseline1 Work through Baseline10 Work) store the total planned person-hours scheduled for a task, resource, or assignment. The Baseline1 Work field stores planned work for tasks, resources, or assignments saved with Baseline 1. Likewise, the Baseline2 Work through Baseline10 Work fields store planned work for Baselines 2 through 10. The timephased versions of these fields show values distributed over time.

There are several categories of Baseline1-10 Work fields.

Data Type    Duration

Baseline1-10 Work (task fields)

Entry Type    Calculated or entered

How Calculated    As soon as you save a baseline, the task's total scheduled work at that point in time is copied into the corresponding baseline work field for the task. The baseline work field that is used (Baseline1 Work, Baseline2 Work, and so on) depends on which baseline was saved (Baseline 1, Baseline 2, and so on).

Best Uses    Add one of the Baseline1-10 Work fields to a task view when you've saved more than one baseline and you want to compare baseline work amounts with scheduled or actual work for tasks. You can also use multiple baselines to compare baseline work saved at different points in the project.

Example    At the start of your project two months ago, you saved a project baseline. A month ago, the scope of your project changed, and you saved a second baseline with Baseline 1. Since then, you've made further adjustments and have saved a third baseline with Baseline 2. You now want to compare and analyze the three sets of baseline work values. You add the Baseline Work, Baseline1 Work, and Baseline2 Work fields to the Task Sheet.

Remarks    The baseline work fields contain 0 days until you save a corresponding baseline, which you can do at any time during the project in Set Baseline dialog box. Select the baseline you want—Baseline or Baseline 1 through Baseline 10. This copies the current value of the scheduled Work field into the corresponding Baseline Work field.

After you set a baseline, you can still edit baseline values. However, editing baseline values does not cause baseline work fields to be recalculated.

Baseline1-10 Work (resource fields)

Entry Type    Calculated or entered

How Calculated    As soon as a baseline is saved, the resource's total scheduled work at that point in time is copied into the corresponding baseline work field for the resource.

The baseline work field that is used (Baseline1 Work, Baseline2 Work, and so on) depends on which baseline was saved (Baseline 1, Baseline 2, and so on).

Best Uses    Add one of the Baseline1-10 Work fields to a resource view when you've saved more than one baseline and you want to compare baseline work amounts to scheduled or actual work for resources. With multiple baselines, you can also compare baseline work saved at different points in the project.

You add the Baseline Work, Baseline1 Work, and Baseline2 Work fields to the Resource Sheet.

Remarks    The baseline work fields contain 0 hours until you save a corresponding baseline, which you can do at any time during the project in the Set Baseline dialog box. Select the baseline you want (Baseline or Baseline 1 through Baseline 10). This copies the current value for the scheduled Work field into the corresponding Baseline Work field.

After you set a baseline, you can still edit baseline values. However, editing baseline values does not cause baseline work fields to be recalculated.

Baseline1-10 Work (assignment fields)

Entry Type    Calculated or entered

How Calculated    As soon as you save a baseline, the assignment's total scheduled work at that point in time is copied into the corresponding Baseline Work field for the assignment. The baseline work field that is used (Baseline1 Work, Baseline2 Work, and so on) depends on which baseline was saved (Baseline 1, Baseline 2, and so on).

Best Uses    Add one of the Baseline1-10 Work assignment fields to the sheet portion of the Task Usage or Resource Usage view when you've saved more than one baseline and you want to compare baseline work amounts to scheduled or actual work for assignments.

You add the Baseline Work, Baseline1 Work, and Baseline2 Work fields to the Task Usage view.

Remarks    The baseline work fields contain 0 hours of work until you save a corresponding baseline, which you can do at any time during the project in the Set Baseline dialog box. Select the baseline you want—Baseline or Baseline 1 through Baseline 10. This copies the current value of the Scheduled Work field into the corresponding Baseline Work field.

After you set a baseline, you can still edit baseline values. However, editing baseline values does not cause the baseline work fields to be recalculated.

Baseline1-10 Work (task-timephased fields)

Entry Type    Calculated or entered

How Calculated    As soon as you save a baseline, the task's timephased scheduled work at that point in time is copied into the Baseline Work field for the task. The baseline work field that is used (Baseline1 Work, Baseline2 Work, and so on) depends on which baseline was saved (Baseline 1, Baseline 2, and so on).

Best Uses    Add one of the Baseline1-10 Work fields to the timephased portion of the Task Usage view when you've saved more than one baseline, and you want to compare timephased baseline work amounts with timephased scheduled or actual work for tasks over time. You can also use multiple baselines to compare baseline work values saved at different points in the project.

Example    At the start of your project two months ago, you saved a project baseline. A month ago, the scope of your project changed, and you saved a second baseline with Baseline 1. Since then, you've made further adjustments and have saved a third baseline with Baseline 2. You now want to compare and analyze the three sets of baseline timephased work values. You add the Baseline Work, Baseline1 Work, and Baseline2 Work fields to the Task Usage view.

Remarks    The baseline work fields are blank until you save a corresponding baseline, which you can do at any time during the project in the Set Baseline dialog box. Select the baseline you want—Baseline or Baseline 1 through Baseline 10. This copies the current value for the scheduled Work field into the corresponding Baseline Work field.

After you set a baseline, you can still edit any baseline values. However, editing baseline values does not cause baseline work fields to be recalculated. Edits to total baseline work values do not affect timephased baseline work values and vice versa.

Baseline1-10 Work (resource-timephased fields)

Entry Type    Calculated or entered

How Calculated    As soon as you save a baseline, the resource's timephased scheduled work at that point in time is copied into the corresponding baseline work field for the resource.

Best Uses    Add one of the Baseline1-10 Work fields to the timephased portion of the Resource Usage view when you've saved more than one baseline and you want to compare timephased baseline work amounts to timephased scheduled or actual work for resources. You can also use multiple baselines to compare baseline work values saved at different points in the project.

Best Uses    Add one of the Baseline1-10 Work fields to the timephased portion of the Task Usage or Resource Usage view when you've saved more than one baseline and you want to compare timephased baseline work amounts to timephased scheduled or actual work for assignments. You can also use multiple baselines to compare baseline work values saved at different points in the project.
