Description    The Actual Overtime Cost fields show costs incurred for overtime work already performed on tasks by assigned resources.

Data Type     Currency

Actual Overtime Cost (task field)

Entry Type    Calculated

How Calculated    When a task is first created, the Actual Overtime Cost field contains $0. If any actual overtime work is reported by assigned resources for the task, Microsoft Office Project calculates the actual overtime cost. The Actual Overtime Cost field is calculated by multiplying the value in the assigned resource's Overtime Rate field by the number of overtime hours reported.

Actual Overtime Cost = Overtime Rate * Actual Overtime Work

Best Uses    Add the Actual Overtime Cost field to a task view to review the resulting overtime expense of a task based on actual overtime work and the overtime rates of the assigned resources. You might find this useful while the task is in progress to see if you're staying within your budget for overtime. You can also use this information after the task is completed to help you plan costs and staffing for future projects.

Example    You're tracking costs on the "Conduct client meetings" task, which has planned overtime for Jamie and Chris. Jamie's overtime rate is $30 per hour, and the overtime rate for Chris is $25 per hour. So far, Jamie has reported 3 hours of overtime, and Chris has reported 4 hours of overtime. Project calculates that the actual overtime cost for this task so far is $190.
