Yammer Enterprise stand-alone plan to retire by January 2017

This article is to inform you of the upcoming changes that might affect your stand-alone Yammer Enterprise subscription.

NOTE: Yammer Enterprise will continue to be available as a part of the Office 365 Enterprise plans. Most customers will not be affected by this change.

In an effort to provide the best Yammer experience to our customers, we are continually strengthening Yammer integration with various Office 365 collaboration tools, such as SharePoint, OneNote, Planner, and more. Such integrations strive to meet customers’ diverse needs and enable teams to collaborate with a wide range of tools. With this emphasis on Office 365 integration, the standalone Yammer Enterprise plan will be retired on January 1, 2017 for all Volume Licensing (VL) and Direct channels, and on July 1, 2017 for Partner channels, i.e. Syndication and Cloud Solution Provider (CSP). The 6-month extension for Partner channels adhere to communication obligation for Syndication. Yammer will continue be available through Office 365 flagship suites: Business Essentials, Business Premium, K1, E1, E3, and E5. 

Note that this change affects all Government and Education customers as well.

How this affects you

Both new and existing customers will be affected by the plan retirement. New customers won’t be able to purchase the retired plans after December 31, 2016 through most channels: Enterprise Agreement (EA), Microsoft Products and Service Agreement (MPSA), Open, Direct, but existing customers will have options depending on several factors, including: the participating channel and/or program, enrollment terms, offers, and subscription lengths. * EA customers who have Yammer Enterprise SKUs locked on the Customer Price Sheet (CPS) are allowed to order the SKUs through the term of their current EA enrollment.

What you need to do

If you currently subscribe to Yammer Enterprise and have an active enrollment, no action is needed during the term of your current agreement. You can transition to a new plan (refer to transition paths on table below) by the expiration date (December 31, 2017, June 30, 2018, or December 31, 2019 depending on your channel or program) as shown in the table above. 

Once a new plan has been chosen and a new subscription created, each user in the tenant will need a license for the new subscription. Tenant admins can re-assign licenses to their users for the new subscription either manually or in-bulk using PowerShell.

FAQ

Q: Does this change mean you discontinue offering Yammer as a standalone plan?

A: Yes. We seek to unleash the power of Office 365 modern collaboration tools within Yammer, and we do so by strengthening Yammer integration with the broader Office 365 suites, and making it available as part of Office 365 suites offering.  

Q: Will users lose any of their content while making the transition?

A: No. There is no content loss when users transition to a new plan. In fact, users will eventually benefit from added new features from Office 365 integration, extent of which varies depending on which transition SKUs they opt in for. 

Q: Are special offers or discounts available to help existing customers transition to higher-priced plans?

A: No. Transition SKUs are priced competitively today. For Enterprise customers, we offer deskless worker SKU (K1 SKU), which is list priced very similar to Yammer Enterprise at $4/user/month, with more functionalities. Standard Office 365 volume discounting applies to all transition SKUs. Special discounting will be handled per case-by-case basis through the business desk. 

Q: How do existing EA customers with retired Yammer Enterprise SKU add additional seats? 

A; Existing Yammer Enterprise customers with price locked on their CPS can order or reserve more seats if needed within current EA enrollment, even though the SKU has been off the price list. At renewal, customers are encouraged to transition into one of the 6 options available as a path for current Yammer Enterprise customers.

Q: Can customers transition their users to the new plans only at the time of EA renewal? 

A: Yammer Enterprise is an additional product available as a subscription license in EA. Therefore, customers may reduce the license count any time during the term of their EA. If the license count is reduced to zero, then the subscription will be cancelled. The invoice with the adjustment of license reduction will be done at the anniversary date or renewal.  

Q: Can Yammer Enterprise customers on Syndication transition directly to new plans on CSP? 

A: No. At this time, we have a technical limitation that requires Syndication -> CSP transition to be done on the same SKU. Partner can transition existing Yammer Enterprise on Syndication customers to CSP (1:1 transition from Syndication/Yammer Enterprise -> CSP/Yammer Enterprise) until June 30, 2017. Once on CSP, customers can transition to any applicable transition paths stated on table above.  Customer list cleanup and upsell prior to transition is optional, but recommended.
