Working with lists

Items marked with an asterisk (*) are available in Microsoft Office Accounting Professional 2008 only.

There are several things you can do in a list in Microsoft Office Accounting 2008. You can search for information, modify the list layout, print the list, or export it to Microsoft Office Excel.

Open a list

  • On the Company, Customers, Vendors, Employees, Banking, or Online Sales menu, point to the Lists option, and then click the list that you want to view.

Work with lists

Find information in a list

  1. On the Actions menu, click Find.

  2. Use the Find toolbar at the top of the list to find particular entries in the list.



Look for

Type a keyword or phrase that you want to search for, or click the arrow next to Look for to select a previously entered item.

Search under

Click the arrow next to Search under to select the column in which you want to search for a keyword or phrase.


Click to start the search. Results appear in the list.


Click to clear your current search results and return to the default list view.

Modify a list layout

You can modify a list to capture relevant information.


Do this

Add, remove, reorganize, or rename columns

On the View menu, click Add/Remove Content, and then follow the instructions in the Modify Layout dialog box.

Switch the order of a column

Click a column title to switch between ascending and descending order. An arrow indicates the sort order.

Change the position of a column

Select a column title and drag it to a new position.

Resize a column width

Click the column divider next to the column heading and drag it to a new width.

Print a list

  1. On the File menu, click Print.

  2. In the Print dialog box, click Preview to preview what the list will look like.

Note: For the following lists, you cannot print a list after you have selected an item on it. You must leave the home page that the list is on, and then reopen it:

  • Journal Entry List

  • Quote List

  • *Sales Order List

  • Invoice List

  • Purchase Order List

Export a list to Excel

On the Actions menu, click Export to Excel.

To export a list, you must have Office Excel installed on your computer.
