Where are the Research options?

Research options are the specific reference books and research sites available in Office 2010 to help with multilingual needs. For example, in the Research Option dialog box, you can select from dictionaries, thesauruses, and various Internet research Web sites in several languages. The Research Options services available depend on the language of your version of Office 2010 and any services that you add to the Research Options dialog box.

Note: Research Option dialog box functionality is not available in the Proofing tools pane in later versions of apps for Office.

Add more Research options

If the languages that you need are not listed in the Research Options dialog box, you could add that language's services and tools. The languages that are available depend on the language of your version of Office 2010, whether that language contains Translation Dictionaries, and if that language includes any companion languages.

  1. In the Research pane, click Research options. Research Options button

  2. In the Research Options dialog box, click the check boxes for the services that you want, and then click Update/Remove. Update/Remove button

  3. In the Update or Remove Services dialog box, select the service category that you want installed, for example, Translation (Installed Dictionaries), click Update Update button .

  4. Follow the installation instructions, click Close, and then click OK.

  5. Select the reference materials that you want to use, for example, Thesaurus: Russia, type the word that you want to research into the Search for text box Search for text box , and then click Start Go button .
