View the changes in the source document of a translation

With the integration between Microsoft Office Word 2007 and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007, you can compare two versions of a document that is stored in a document library and display what is different between the versions. In addition, if the document is a translation in a Translation Management Library, and if the translation was completed as part of a Translation Management workflow, you can use an additional comparison feature to view changes in the source document.

In a Translation Management Library, the source document is the document that is being translated. By viewing the changes in the source document of a translation, you can compare the version of the source document that the translation is based upon with the most recent version of the source document. This allows you to quickly see any changes that have been made in the source document since you completed your translation.

The following illustration shows the View changes in the source document command on the Compare button on the Ribbon. (The Ribbon is part of the Microsoft Office Fluent user interface.) Note that this option is available only when you open a translated document that is saved in a Translation Management Library, and only when that translation was completed as part of a Translation Management workflow.

Important: The integration between the Translation Mangement Library and Office Word 2007 is available only in Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007, Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007, and Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007, and in the stand-alone version of Office Word 2007.

View changes in the source document

By viewing the changes in the source document of a translation, you can compare the version of the source document upon which the translation is based with the most recent version of the source document. This allows you to quickly see any changes that were made in the source document since you began your translation.

  1. If the Translation Management Library is not already open, click its name on the Quick Launch.

If the name of your Translation Management Library does not appear on the Quick Launch, click View All Site Content, and then click the name of your library.

  2. Click the name of the translated document that you want to open. The document opens in Office Word 2007.

Note: You do not need to check out the file.

  3. In Office Word 2007, on the Review tab, in the Compare group, click Compare.

  4. Click View changes in the source document.

Note: This option is available only when you open a translated document that is saved in a Translation Management Library, and only when that translation was completed as part of a Translation Management workflow.

Office Word 2007 opens and compares the version of the source document upon which the current translation is based with the most recent version of the source document.
