With the free Office Online apps, you can create, share, and edit with others at the same time, from anywhere.

But sometimes you might need the full power of Office on your desktop.

When you do, you can quickly switch to the full-featured desktop apps—without leaving your document.

You just need Office 365 or a recent version of Office on your PC or Mac.

It works the same in all the online apps.

To switch to the Word desktop app, for example, you just click the Edit in Word button.

There’s a similar button in the Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote Online apps.

When you open your online document in the desktop app, it may open in Read Mode.

To edit the document, click View > Edit Document.

When you save your document and close the desktop app, your document will still be online, right where you left it so you can continue working with others, from anywhere.
