Accessibility in Office 365

Many documents contain hidden obstacles that can impede users with a vision or reading disability. Word has a built-in Accessibility Checker to help you find and fix these obstacles.

With your document open, choose the File tab…

Click Check for Issues then, Check Accessibility.

The Accessibility Checker will open in a panel on the right, with results from its inspection.

When you choose an item from the Inspection Results, Word will select that item in the document.

And below the Inspection Results list, Word explains why and how to fix the issue you’ve selected.

Accessibility issues fall into three categories.

The most serious issues are listed under Errors.

An error is content that can’t be read by users with certain disabilities – especially if they rely on screen-reading programs.

Next come Warnings.

These are less serious, but still make it difficult for people with disabilities to read your document.

Finally, under Tips, you’ll find any issues that might cause problems.

Fixing these will help optimize your document’s readability for everyone.
