Using the ACE Management View to Set Levels of Access for Groups

You can use the ACE (Access Control Entry) Management View to change access levels for:

  • The people in my company group     This group is assigned to the Company access level by default.

  • The people in domains connected with my company group     This group, also known as federated users, is assigned to the Public access level by default.

  • The people in public domains group    This group, also known as the Public Internet Connectivity users, is not assigned to any access level by default.

  • To switch to ACE Management view, click the Menu button, click View, and then click Access Levels Management.

Change the access level for people in my company

When you move the People in my company group to a new access level, every contact currently assigned to the Company access level is moved to the new level. Further, any contacts from your company that you add to your Contact List are automatically granted the access level that is currently assigned to the People in my company group. Once you move the People in my company group, you can still move individual contacts between groups.

  1. To change the level of access for the People in my company group, click the Menu button, click View, and then click Access Levels Management.

  2. In the Contact List, right-click People in my company, click Change Level of Access, and then select the appropriate access level.

Change the access level for people in domains connected with my company

A People in domains connected with my company group represents the group of federated users. By default, the People in domains connected with my company group is assigned the Public access level.

  1. To change the level of access for all contacts in the People in domains connected with my company group, click the Menu button, click View, and then click Access Levels Management.

  2. In the Contact List, right-click People in domains connected with my company, click Change Level of Access, and then click to the appropriate access level.

Change the access level for people in public domains

A People in public domains group represents the group of Public Internet Connectivity users. By default, the People in public domains group is not assigned to any access level.

  1. To change the level of access for all contacts in the People in public domains group, click the Menu button, click View, and then click Access Levels Management.

  2. In the Contact List, right-click People in public domains, click Change Level of Access, and then click to the appropriate access level.

Add a new domain

You can add a new domain to your ACE Management view to assign an access level for a specific domain, such as MSN, Yahoo, or AOL.

  1. To add a domain, click the Menu button, click View, and then click Access Levels Management.

  2. In the Contact List, right-click the Access Level name where you want to add the new domain, and then click Add New Domain. For example, you could click Company, click Add New Domain, and then type example.com.

Add a public domain

If a People in public domains group does not exist in your Contact List, you can add it to the list. This group represents the group of Public Internet Connectivity users, including AOL, Yahoo, MSN, and Windows Live instant messenger users.

  1. To add a domain, click the Menu button, click View, and then click Access Levels Management.

  2. In the Contact List, right-click on the Access Level name where you want to add the new domain, click Add Public Domain, and then type the domain name. For example: example.com.
