Use the Project Guide to start a new project

Microsoft Office Project provides a Project Guide with easy-to-follow instructions to help you set up a new project.

Tip   You can also use the Project Guide to enter tasks, assign resources, track progress, and report on the status of your project.

Turn on the Project Guide

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Interface tab.

  2. In the Project Guide settings section, select the Display Project Guide check box.

If your organization has developed a custom Project Guide with instructions and wizards that are rearranged or tailored to its specific business needs, you can switch to your company's customized layout or content.

Tip   You can change the Project Guide in the enterprise global template to deploy a custom Project Guide across your organization. Find links to more information about changing the enterprise global template in the See also section.

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Interface tab.

  2. In the Project Guide settings section, under Project Guide Functionality and Layout Page, click Use a custom page, and then type the page location in the URL box. You can also click Browse to find the page in the Open dialog box.

  3. Under Project Guide Content, click Use custom content, and then type an XML file name in the XML file for custom content box. You can also click Browse to navigate to the file.

Set up a new project using the Project Guide

  1. After creating a new project, on the Project Guide toolbar, click Tasks, and then click Define the Project.

  2. Follow the steps on the Project Guide to enter project information, including the project start date and collaboration options.

  3. On the Project Guide toolbar, click Tasks, and then click Define general working times.

  4. Follow the steps on the Project Guide to enter the working times for your project.
