Microsoft OneNote 2010 lets you mark your notes with so-called tags, which let you easily return to information that you want to follow up on, remind yourself about, or send to others. You can flag a single line of text or entire paragraphs of notes.
Aside from identifying important information and action items, tags are also a great way to categorize and prioritize notes because the tags and their labels can be used for searching your notebooks. The search results can be combined into a notes page to create checklists, To Do lists, and other convenient ways of using and acting on your information.
OneNote comes with several pre-defined note tags, which you can either customize or expand upon by creating your own.

Apply a tag to your notes
On a page containing one or several notes, do the following:
Place the cursor at the beginning of the line of text you want to tag.
On the Home tab, in the Tags group, click the tag symbol you want to apply. Use the arrows to scroll through the list or click the More arrow to show all available tags.
Search for note tags
To quickly find all of your tagged notes (for example, to see all items you marked with the Important tag), do the following:
On the Home tab, in the Tags group, click Find Tags.
In the Task Summary task pane that opens, click any tag to find and open the page that contains the associated note.
Remove a tag from your notes
You can remove tags from notes when they are no longer necessary. Removing note tags is useful if you frequently search by tagged notes and only want to see notes with tags that are current.
Do one of the following:
To remove a single note tag, right-click it on the page, and then click Remove Tag on the shortcut menu.
To remove multiple note tags, place the cursor anywhere in the text containing the tags that you want to remove, and then press CTRL+0 (ZERO).
