History of Office Insider versions and builds

If you're enrolled in the Insider level, formerly called Insider Fast, you get frequent updates with new features and improvements. The following table shows a history of recent Insider versions and builds, with the most recently released build listed first. New builds contain all the updates contained in previous builds.

Note: Our engineering teams post in the Office Insider community when they release new features through the Insider update channel. Some of you have also asked for dedicated release notes for each Insider build--beyond what you see below. After updating to the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, on some devices and Excel builds, you may see your cursor flicker as you move it across cells in a workbook. This issue is affecting Insiders and non-Insiders alike and is under investigation. It is not tied to a particular Office build.

Known issue

Some Insiders have reported that Access is unable to open compiled databases, including the ACCDE and MDE file formats. Other insiders are also seeing Access crash when using common wizards, such as the lookup wizard and linked table manager. This should be fixed in the next Fast update.

Because of the Access issue, we've disabled automatic updates for most of you. (If you don't use Access, you can choose to update manually by clicking File > Update > Update Now.)

New Feature

Try out the Word Translator—a new feature that translates full documents or selected words, phrases, or sentences in up to 60 languages, right in Word. For more info, see the Office Insider discussion. Note that we're rolling out this feature gradually to Insiders, so if you don't see it in 8613.1000, stay tuned

Fixes

Fixes an issue where Word, Excel, or PowerPoint would crash when you closed the app. (Note: We fixed this by disabling something on the backend, so you don't need to install a new build. If you're still experiencing the crashes, try closing and reopening your app a few times. Make sure you have a web connection.)

Notable fixes/improvements

Fixes an issue where, under certain conditions, Word crashes while trying to recover cloud-based files.

Improves the usability of the Editor pane in Word so that the Ignore buttons remain in the same place on the pane, instead of moving up and down depending on the number of suggestions.

Fixes an issue where right-clicking a context menu and then closing it would eventually cause Word and Outlook to close unexpectedly. 

Fixes an issue in Word, Excel with ink effects, where ink appears pixilated after drawing overlapping strokes.

Announcement

In September 2017, the Office team is changing the update model for Office 365 for business customers. As part of this effort, the name of the Office Insider levels, currently called Insider Fast and Insider Slow, will change. The Insider Fast level name changes to Insider and the Insider Slow level name changes to Monthly Channel (Targeted). You will see the new name starting with build 8424.1000. In Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, try ungrouping SVG images and Office icons and converting them into shapes. If you have an SVG image that doesn't convert correctly, we want to know!

  • In Word, Excel, or PowerPoint, we’ve added the ability to chat with your coeditors in real-time, without leaving the app. When you edit a document stored in SharePoint, and you can see others editing at the same time. Click the chat icon next to their faces to exchange messages with your coeditors.

  • Insert 3D models to see all the angles: In Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, click Insert > 3D Model to increase visual and creative impact in your documents, workbooks, presentations, and messages. Easily insert a 3D model, and then rotate it through 360 degrees. Bring 3D models to life in PowerPoint presentations with the Morph transition, which creates cinematographic animations between slides.

    See info about people and groups—at a glance.. Look for the new people and groups card in Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and Skype for Business.

In Outlook, use the redesigned conversational view to see messages from the same conversation together, in the order they were received. Read email from top to bottom, oldest to newest, and quickly reply all.

If you're enrolled in the Monthly Channel (Targeted) level, formerly called Insider Slow, you get a new Office 2016 feature update approximately once a month, plus subsequent builds containing important fixes or security updates.
