Set up your website in Office 365

Your Office 365 subscription may include a public website that you can customize to create a professional online presence for your small business.

Note   The SharePoint Online Public Website information in this article only applies if your organization purchased Office 365 prior to March 9, 2015.

Quick steps

These options work if you are a new customer, have upgraded your public website, or are still using your pre-upgrade website.

  1. Sign in to Office 365 with your work or school account.

  2. At the top of the page, select Sites. Or, select the app launcher Office 365 app launcher icon, and then select Sites.

  3. Select the Public site tile.

  4. Select the Site tab and choose Change the Look.

  5. Select a template you want to modify.

You can drag and drop your own background photo, change the color palette, select different site layouts and fonts. When you’re finished select Try it out to see a full-screen preview.

  1. To continue changing the design, select No, not quite there yet, and continue with your customizations.

  2. Once you have completed your design, you can start making content changes. Select the Site tab and choose Edit Title, Change Logo, and any other elements you need to complete your changes.

  3. To customize the body content on your page, select the Page tab and select Edit.

  4. Select Save.

  5. Once you’re happy with how everything looks and you’re ready to publish it, on the upper right of the screen, select Make Website Online.

How do I rename my website with a custom domain?

Your Office 365 public website has an initial address that is something like www.contoso-public.sharepoint.com, where contoso is the name you chose when you signed up. Once you add a domain to Office 365, you can change your website address to reflect the new name. For more information on setting up a domain name, see Set up your domain name.

How do I upgrade my existing public website?

If you’ve been using Office 365 for a while you may have two public websites. You can upgrade to the new public website whenever you’re ready. For more information, see Upgrade your public website.

How do I optimize my website for mobile users?

If you want phone and tablet users to avoid having to scroll a lot on your site, use the prebuilt mobile master page when customizing your site. The mobile master page works for smaller screens. Navigation to your site is done as a drop-down list and lines wrap to fit on the smaller screen. For more information, see Set up your public website for mobile users.

How do I change the website navigation?

Navigation links show site visitors what information is available. You can easily create, edit, and delete links that appear in your site navigation. For more information, see Customize the navigation on your website.

Can I add a video or audio to my website?

Yes, you can embed both video and audio on your website. You can embed videos from a sharing site such as YouTube or Vimeo, or you can embed a video or audio from your computer. For details about how to do this, see Embed video on a public website page and Embed audio on a public website page.
