Set up email in the Outlook for Android app

Send and receive email, manage your calendar, and much more with the Outlook for Android mobile app. If your Android mobile device is incompatible with the app, you can also Set up email in the built-in Android email app. If you're experiencing sync issues, try troubleshooting email setup on mobile.

If you haven't already, download and install the mobile app from the Google Play Store.

Download Outlook for Android.

Add your email address

  1. Open Outlook for Android on your device.

    If this is your first time, swipe through the intro. If this isn't your first time using the app, tap Settings > Add Account > Add Email Account.

  2. On the Add Account page, enter your email address and tap Continue.

    In most cases, Outlook will automatically detect your email provider and configure your account for you.

  3. If you are prompted to choose your account type, select your email provider from the list.

    For example, if you have an @hotmail.com email address, you would choose Outlook.com as your account type. If you are not sure who your provider is, see the Commonly Asked Questions section in Troubleshoot Email Setup on Mobile.

Enter your password

  1. Enter your password and sign in to connect your account. You may also be asked to enter a name and description of your account.

  2. If you are prompted to enter additional details such as server settings, you may need this information from your email provider. You can find settings for popular providers as well as learn more about what to ask your email provider here.

    If you're looking for POP or IMAP settings for Office 365 for business, find them here. Once you've got your email server settings, enter them and proceed to the next step.

  3. Outlook for Android may request access to certain information such as your contacts, calendar, etc. Tap Yes or Allow to sync these with the mobile app. If your organization has set up security policies for you, tap Activate.

  4. You are now ready to use Outlook for Android. Tap any one of the icons to view your calendar, files, or contacts in the app.

Begin using Outlook for Android

You can learn how to complete other set up functions for Outlook here:

  1. Open Outlook for Android. Go to Settings.

  2. Tap on the email account you want to delete.

  3. Tap Delete Account.

  2. Tap on the email account you want to add an alias to.

  3. Tap Advanced Settings > Add Alias.

  4. Enter your email address alias and tap Done on the keyboard.

To change your password you must access your email from your provider's website. For example, if you use a @hotmail.com email account, sign into login.live.com and access your settings to change them.

Outlook for Android will detect a sync error and will ask you to enter your password again. You can also delete and re-add your account if you prefer.

Note: If you change the password for your email account that is also your Microsoft account, you may need to login again on other Microsoft applications and websites.
