There are three ways to join the audio portion of a Lync Meeting. You can connect over Lync by using your computer mic and speakers or a headset, have Lync call you at a number you specify, or, if the meeting request includes a call-in number, call into the meeting from a phone of your choice.

Note:  You can have Lync call you and set up Lync Meetings that include call-in details only if dial-in conferencing is configured for your account. For details contact your workplace technical support.

Use the following steps to choose your audio option. You can set your audio option for all Lync Meetings, or set it so that Lync prompts you to select your audio option each time you join a meeting. The latter is handy if you want to use your phone for some but not all meetings.

  1. In the Lync main window, click Options, and then Phones.

  2. Under Joining conference calls, in the Join meeting audio from drop-down menu, do one of the following:

  3. To use computer audio and video (using your computer mic and speakers or a headset) for Lync Meetings, select Lync.

  4. To have Lync call you, select the phone number you want to use. If you don’t see your number, type it under My phone numbers at the top of Phones options.

  5. To call in to the meeting after you join by using the call-in info in the meeting request, select Do not join audio.

  6. Do one of the following:

  7. If you want to use option you just selected for all Lync Meetings, clear the Before I join meetings, ask me which audio device I want to use check box.

  8. If you join from different locations or devices and might often need to choose a different audio type, select the Before I join meetings, ask me which audio device I want to use check box.

Tip:  If you’re using computer audio and video (that is, if you select Lync as your audio option), you can test the volume and quality of your speakers and mic and/or choose a different device by clicking Audio Device in the left pane of the Lync - Options window.
