Data Type    Date

Entry Type    Calculated or entered

Description    The Resume field shows the date that the remaining portion of a task is scheduled to resume after you enter any progress, for example, % Complete, % Work Complete, Actual Work, Actual Duration, or Actual Start. The Resume field is also recalculated when the remaining portion of a task is moved to a new date.

How Calculated    The Resume field contains "NA" until you enter actual work or percent complete. Based on this information, Project calculates how much work has been done up to a certain point in time and then determines the stop date. Typically, the date in the Resume field immediately follows the date in the Stop field. If you allow Project to split tasks that are in progress, the resume date could be scheduled to be much later than the stop date on the task.

Best Uses    Use the Resume field to adjust the date when you want remaining duration on a task to start up again. Add the Resume field to a task view when you want to view or filter for task resume dates.

Example    Today is February 4, and you have just entered that the two-day "Conduct client meetings" task is 50 percent complete. The next set of meetings will not take place until February 17. In the Resume field, you enter February 17 so that the task is scheduled accurately.

Remarks    You can also drag the Gantt bar in the Gantt Chart view to adjust the resume date. You can set the option for whether you can change the resume date in the Project Options dialog box.

When you enter percent complete or total actual work, Project might set the resume date to the status date by default. If you prefer, you can leave tracking fields in the project as originally scheduled, even if completed work is shown in the future or remaining work is shown in the past. You can do this in the Project Options dialog box.

You can set the status date to a date other than today's date in the Project Information dialog box.
