Reset your public website to the default version

Made changes to your public website and want to start over? For all Office 365 plans other than Office 365 Small Business, you can simply delete and recreate the Public Website. If you are using Office 365 Small Business, it’ll take a bit of work to restore your public website to the default version.

  1. Log into Office 365 with an account that has Global administrator permissions.

  2. Click Admin > SharePoint.

  3. In Site collections, click the checkbox next to the Public Website.

    Note: Do you have two Public websites? If you’ve been with Office 365 awhile, you may have tiles for Public site (current) and Public site (new). Public site (current) is your existing, or pre-upgrade, website. Public site (new) is the new version of the website available after you upgraded to the latest version of SharePoint Online and Office 365. Click the version that you want to delete and start over with.

  4. Click Delete.

  5. Recreate the public website by creating a new collection.

Reset your Office 365 Small Business public website

  1. From the Sites page, click on the Public site tile.

    Note: Do you have two public websites? If you’ve been with Office 365 awhile, you may have tiles for Public site (current) and Public site (new). Public site (current) is your existing, or pre-upgrade, website. Public site (new) is the new version of the website available after you upgraded to the latest version of SharePoint Online and Office 365. Click the version that you want to reset.

  2. Click Settings SharePoint Online Public Website Settings button >Site contents > Pages.

  3. For each page created by the System account,

    • Select the page and click Files > Version History.

    • Point to the Modified date for the 0.1 version created by the System Account and click the arrow that appears next to it.

    • Click Restore.

  4. For each page that your organization created,

    • Select the page and click Files > Version History.

    • Click Delete all versions.

  5. To change the Public Website’s look back to the default,

    • From the Sites page, click on the Public site tile.

    • Click Site.

      Don’t see the Site option? Here’s a handy trick. Add \pages to the end of your website address (URL). For example, if your site is https://contoso-public.sharepoint.com, then change it to this:

      https://contoso-public.sharepoint.com/pages

  6. Click Change the look > Default.
