Organizing Contacts into Groups

You can organize your contacts into groups so they are easier to locate and to manage. A contact can be added to more than one group.

To create a new group

  1. In the Contacts List, click Contacts.

  2. Click Create a New Group.

  3. Type a name for the new group, and then press ENTER.

To add a new contact to a group

  1. In the Contacts List, type search information (display name or e-mail address) in the Search box, and then press ENTER.

  2. In the results area, right-click the name of the contact that you want to add to a group, point to Add to Contact List, and then click the appropriate group name. If a group name that you want is not available, the contact is already a member of that group.

To move a contact to a different group

  • Right-click the name of the contact to be moved, point to Move Contact to, and then click the name of the group that the contact should be moved to.

To send an instant message to a group

  • Right-click the name of the group, and then click Send an Instant Message.

To delete a group

You can delete only groups that you create; you cannot delete the Other Contacts, Presence Unknown, Tagged Contacts, or Offline groups. In addition, you cannot delete any of the Access Level groups. When you delete a group, all the contacts in that group will be moved to the Other Contacts group (unless a contact is already a member of that group).

  1. Right-click the name of the group, and then click Delete Group. If the Delete Group option is not available, you are trying to delete one of the built-in groups.

  2. In the message box that appears, click OK to confirm the deletion.

To rename a group

  1. Right-click the name of the group, and then click Rename Group.

  2. Type the new name, and then press ENTER.
