Explanation

This error occurs when you cannot start a communication session with a contact or you cannot invite the contact to join a conference. The following sections provide more details for the different communication modes under which this error can occur.

Instant Messaging

Cause:    Office Communicator 2007 does not recognize the address of the person you are trying to contact to start an IM session. Office Communicator 2007 supports instant messaging sessions with users who are either federated (i.e. connected) with your company, who are public IM contacts, or who are Office Communicator users within your company. You cannot conduct instant messaging sessions with users who do not meet this criteria.

Resolution:     You can find more information about adding federated or public IM contacts in the Frequently Asked Questions article. Note that federation and public IM connectivity must be set up in your company before you can conduct IM sessions with federated or public IM contacts. If you don't know if a contact is federated with your company, or if you are enabled for public IM connectivity, contact your system administrator with this information: Error ID:1005.

Call

Cause:    Office Communicator 2007 does not recognize the address of the person you are trying to call. Calls made using the Office Communicator 2007 Communicator Call option are VoIP calls. You can make VoIP calls to Office Communicator users in your company and to outside Communicator users who are federated with your company. You cannot make Communicator Calls to public IM contacts or to people outside your company, such as family members, who are not federated with your company.
