Manage Objects with the Selection Pane

You can now use the Selection Pane to manage objects in Office 2016 for Mac.

Once you've inserted shapes, text boxes, SmartArt, images, or other objects you want to manage into your slides or worksheets, you can bring up the Selection Pane to easily keep track of them all.

Using the Selection Pane

  1. Select one of the objects you want to manage.

  2. On the Format tab that appears on the ribbon when you select the object, choose Selection Pane.

Note: If you select a shape or a text box, the Shape Format tab will open automatically. If you select a picture, the Picture Format tab will open automatically. If you select a piece of SmartArt, you'll need to manually select the Format tab.

Note: On some smaller screens, you'll select Format > Arrange > Selection Pane.

  3. The Selection Pane will open with all your objects listed, and you can do any of the following:

    • Drag and drop objects up and down in the list to reorder them. In the example below from PowerPoint, moving the curved connector to the top of the list also brought it forward in front of the two oval shapes (and everything else on the slide).
