What do you want to do?
Place a Video Call
You can add video to an existing instant messaging (IM) session or phone call, or you can start a video call from the Office Communicator main window.
To start a video call from the Contact List or Search Results pane
In the Contact List or Search Results pane, right-click a contact and then click Start a Video Call. After the call is accepted, an expanded version of the Conversation window opens to display the video.
To start a video call from the Conversation window
In the Conversation window, click the Video Call button. After the call is accepted, the Conversation window expands to display the video.
Receive a Video Call
To receive an audio/video call, you need speakers and a microphone, or a headset, or a USB audio device. However, you are not required to have a webcam to accept a video call. If you do not have a webcam, you will see the caller’s video feed, but the caller will see a video icon placeholder for your video feed.
When you receive a video call from another Communicator contact, a Call Alert appears in the lower-right corner of your computer screen. From the alert, you can accept, decline, or redirect the call.
To receive an audio/video call
Click the left pane of the Video Call invitation alert.
When you accept a Video Call invitation, the Communicator Conversation window opens and shows the caller’s video stream.
Decline a call
To decline a video call, click the Close button in the call notification window. If voice mail is enabled, the call is redirected to voice mail.
Redirect a call to an instant message
There are times when it is not convenient to accept a video call, even though you want to talk to the caller. For example, you may be in an unscheduled meeting, or in the middle of an important conversation with someone in your office. In these cases, you can send the caller an instant message, perhaps to indicate that you'll call them back or be available later in the day.
To respond to a video call with an instant message, click the Redirect arrow, click Send an Instant Message, type your message, and then click the Send button or press ENTER.
Set your status to Do Not Disturb from a call alert
There are times when your status shows you as available, but you are actually in an unscheduled meeting or having an important conversation with a co-worker. In cases such as these where you do not want to be disturbed, you can set your status to Do Not Disturb the first time you receive a call alert.
In the video call alert, click Redirect, and then click Set to Do Not Disturb. The new presence status lasts until the beginning of the next hour.
Redirect a call to one of your other numbers, or to voice mail
To redirect a call, click Redirect in the video invitation alert, and then select the number where you want to receive the call, or select Voice Mail.
