Insert files from cloud storage into OneNote for iPad or iPhone

You can insert files from your favorite cloud storage providers into your notes. This lets you keep all the necessary information for a project, a trip, or a class in one place — even at times when your connection to the cloud is interrupted.

To use this feature:

  • Your device must be running iOS 8 or later.

  • You must be signed into OneNote and have at least one notebook open.

  • You must have a cloud-based storage app installed on your device, such as OneDrive or Dropbox.

iPad

To insert a file, do the following:

  1. In your notes, go to the page where you want to insert a file or document.

  2. Tap on the page where you want to insert the file.

  3. Tap Insert > File.

  4. Search for or select the source of the file on the left, and then tap the folder or file on the right to insert it.

If you don't see the cloud storage location for your file, tap Edit above the Locations list, and then set the cloud storage location you want to use to the on position.

Note: If the cloud storage location isn't listed, you will need to install the cloud storage provider's app on your device.

  5. Tap to select the file you want to insert.

iPhone

To insert a file, do the following:

  1. In OneNote, tap anywhere on a page to bring up the keyboard.

  2. In the command bar above the keyboard, scroll to tap the paperclip icon.

  3. Do one of the following:

    • Tap a file to insert it.

    • Tap a folder to browse for the file.

    • Search for the using the Search box at the top.

  4. If your preferred cloud storage provider isn't already shown in the file browser list, tap Browse in the lower right corner, tap Edit above the Locations list, and then set the cloud storage location you want to use to the on position.

Note: If the cloud storage location isn't listed, you will need to install the cloud storage provider's app on your device.

  5. Tap to select the file you want to insert. If the file you've selected is in Portable Document Format (PDF), you'll have the option of inserting it as a file attachment or as a printout. A PDF printout converts the pages in a PDF file to images that will be placed in your notebook for easy viewing and annotating.
