Insert a screen clipping in OneNote Online

The OneNote desktop app includes a handy screen clipping feature. Because screen clippings are managed by a small, separate app that runs in the background on your computer, this feature isn't available in OneNote Online.

However, you can easily insert screen clippings into OneNote Online, as long as your computer has the OneNote desktop app installed.

  1. On your computer screen, bring into view whatever you want to capture.

  2. On your keyboard, press Windows+Shift+S simultaneously. (If you’re using an older version of Windows, press Windows+S simultaneously.)

  3. When the screen dims, use your mouse to click and drag around the part of the screen you want to capture.

  4. At the bottom of the Select Location in OneNote dialog box, click Copy to Clipboard.

  5. In OneNote Online, go to the page where you want to insert the screen clipping, and then press CTRL+V to paste the copied image.

Note: Try out OneNote Clipper, a simple way to clip the web, right to OneNote—even if OneNote isn't open.
