The Hyperlink SubAddress field contains the specific location in a document within a hyperlink associated with a task, resource, or assignment. You can click the name in the Hyperlink SubAddress field to go to that Web site on an intranet or the World Wide Web.

Note: You cannot create a hyperlink to data stored in a database such as the Microsoft Project Database format (MPD) or in Project Server.

There are several categories of Hyperlink SubAddress fields.

Data Type    Text

Hyperlink SubAddress (task field)

Entry Type    Entered

Best Uses    Add the Hyperlink SubAddress field to a task sheet view when you want to display or go to the subaddresses associated with tasks. Use the Hyperlink SubAddress field to go to a document on your hard disk or network. For example, this subaddress can point to a location in an HTML document, a bookmark for a Word document, a named range in an Excel workbook, or a slide in a PowerPoint presentation. It can also point to a task, resource, or assignment in a project file.

Example    Many tasks in your project are assigned to outside consulting companies and service bureaus that have Web sites that contain their own Project schedules associated with your tasks. You add the Hyperlink SubAddress field to the Task Sheet view to see the subaddresses (for example, "www.microsoft.com/Bldg_E_Construction.mpp/Gantt Chart!37") to indicate where this project information resides. This subaddress goes to the specified Web site, then to the project file residing on the Web site, then to the Gantt Chart, and finally to task 37.

Remarks    If you want to edit a hyperlink, don't click the Hyperlink or Hyperlink Address field. Clicking either field starts your Web browser and goes to the referenced hyperlink. Instead, use the arrow keys to highlight the cell. Then, click the entry bar above the view to edit the hyperlink.

You can also insert a hyperlink, along with a specific file location, in your project file by completing the Insert Hyperlink dialog box.

Hyperlink SubAddress (resource field)

Entry Type    Entered

Best Uses    Add the Hyperlink SubAddress field to a resource view when you want to display or go to the subaddresses associated with resources.

Example    Several resources working on your project are consulting companies and service bureaus that have Web sites that contain their own Project schedules associated with your resources. You add the Hyperlink SubAddress field to the Resource Sheet view to see the subaddresses (for example, "http://www.microsoft.com/Bldg_E_Construction.mpp/Gantt Chart!37") to indicate where this project information resides. This subaddress goes to the Web site, then to the project file residing on the Web site, then to the Gantt Chart, and finally to task 37.

Hyperlink SubAddress (assignment field)

Entry Type    Entered
