Highlight your text

In PowerPoint 2016, Office 365 subscribers can now take advantage of a text highlighter to emphasize important pieces of text.

Highlight text in PowerPoint 2016

To highlight text, do the following.

  1. Select the text you want to highlight.

  2. On the Home tab, select the arrow next to Text Highlighter Color Shows the Highlight With Text Icon in PowerPoint. .

    Shows the text highlighter on the ribbon in PowerPoint.

  3. Pick the color you want. The text you selected will be highlighted in the color you selected.

If you want to highlight multiple pieces of non-contiguous text without stopping, do the following:

  1. On the Home tab, select the arrow next to Text Highlighter Color Shows the Highlight With Text Icon in PowerPoint. .

  2. Pick the color you want.

  3. Select the text you want to empahsize it to highlight it. To stop highlighting, select the arrow next to Text Highlighter Color Shows the Highlight With Text Icon in PowerPoint. and choose Stop Highlighting, or select the ESC key on your keyboard.

Workaround for highlighting text in PowerPoint 2013

While you can't highlight text in PowerPoint the way you can in PowerPoint 2016 or in Word, you can make text in PowerPoint appear to be highlighted using the Glow text effect.

Use the Glow Text Effect to highlight text

  1. Select the text on the slide.

  2. Under Drawing Tools, click the Format tab.

  3. Click Text Effects > Glow, and then choose a Glow Variation.

You can keep applying Glow formatting to text you want to highlight throughout your presentation.
