Headers and footers in PowerPoint Online

If you are looking for a button to add a header and footer to your slides, you won’t find one in PowerPoint Online. However, you can add header and footer-type information to your slides, or open the presentation in the PowerPoint desktop application to add them.

Add a header or footer using the PowerPoint Online

  1. On the Insert tab, click Text Box.

  2. Click inside the text box, and enter your header or footer text.

  3. Select the text and on the Home tab, pick a font style, size, and color.

  4. Click the edge of the text box until you see a four-headed arrow and then drag the text box to the location where you want your header or footer to appear.

Click the text box until you see the four-headed arrow

  5. Right-click the text box, and click Copy.

  6. Right-click every slide you want to show the header or footer on, and click Paste.

Note: PowerPoint Online will automatically remember the location of the first header or footer you copied it from, and will paste it to the same location on the other slides.

Add a footer using the PowerPoint desktop application

  1. In PowerPoint Online, click Edit Presentation, and then Edit in PowerPoint.

    Edit in PowerPoint command

  2. On the Insert tab, click Header & Footer. After entering the information into the footer, save it to OneDrive, and then open it in PowerPoint Online.

Note:  You can only insert a footer on your slides in the PowerPoint desktop application, not a header.
