Gather the information you need to create Office 365 DNS records

To create the DNS records you need for Office 365 services at your domain registrar or DNS host, you need to use specific values for the records. You can find them in Office 365 by following the steps here. (If you're in the middle of the Office 365 domains setup wizard, you'll see the DNS values on the wizard pages. But if you've closed the wizard, you can follow the steps here to find the values.)

Find the TXT record value for verifying domain ownership to Office 365

  1. Sign in to Office 365 with your work or school account.

  2. Go to the Manage domains page.

  3. On the Manage domains page, select your domain, and then choose the action Start setup to go back to the domains setup wizard.

  4. Step through the wizard to the following page: Add this TXT record to show that you own yourdomain.com. If your domain registrar doesn't let you add TXT records, you'll see "MX record" instead of "TXT record."

  5. Copy the MS=msXXXXXXXX value (including the MS= part) shown on the page.

    Go to Create DNS records for Office 365, and click the link for your DNS host to see the step-by-step instructions. (If your DNS host doesn't have a link on the page, you can follow the general instructions to add the record or contact your DNS host for help.)

  6. Follow the steps for creating the TXT record (or MX record) at your DNS host.

Find other DNS values to set for Office 365, including MX record value for email

  1. Sign in to Office 365 with your work or school account.

  2. Go to the Manage domains page.

  3. On the Manage domains page, select your domain, and then choose Manage DNS.

  4. On the Domain settings page, you'll see the DNS records to add listed under DNS Records.

    • The groups of DNS records that are listed on the page depend on your choices listed under Domain purpose.

  5. When you have this information, go to Create DNS records for Office 365, and then click the link for your DNS host. (If your DNS host doesn't have a link on the page, you can follow the general instructions to add records or contact your DNS host for help.)

  6. Follow the steps for creating the records at your DNS host.
