Find your Office product key

This article is for Office 365 Home, Personal, University, or Office 2013.

In many cases, you won’t need to enter a product key to install Office. For example, to reinstall Office, just sign in to your account page and click Install.

However, when you install Office for the first time or renew your subscription, you might be prompted to enter a product key.

Your product key uses a combination of 25 letters and numbers, and looks like this:

Don’t enter the dashes! Also, some product keys have an extra two letters or numbers at the end. These characters are not needed to activate Office.

Can't find it?

I downloaded Office from an online store.

The product key should be in your email receipt. If you didn’t get a receipt, check your junk mail folder.

Try logging into the site where you purchased Office to check your order details. If you still can’t find your product key, contact the seller to ask for the link or receipt to be resent.

I bought Office at a physical store.

If Office came with a box or card, look on the card or packaging.

If you already entered your key, you won’t need it to reinstall Office, or to install it on another computer.

If you misplaced your key before you redeemed it, you may need to purchase a replacement.

If Office came with your computer, look on your Certificate of Authenticity, or look for an Office product key card in your packaging.

If you can’t find your Certificate of Authenticity or a card with your product key, contact your seller for more information.

Note   If you’re in the Home Use Program, you’ll need a program code, not a product key. To get your program code, go to the Home Use Program, select your country/region, enter your work email address, and click Don’t Know Your Program Code? On the next page, click Verify Email.
